Periodontology is the branch of dentistry that focuses exclusively on inflammatory disease affecting the gums and the other tooth-supporting structures in the arch – the gingiva, alveolar bone and periodontal ligament.
Periodontal disease represents the inflammatory damage to the tissues around the teeth: gum, periodontal ligaments and alveolar bone. The main clinical signs are: gingival inflammation with the appearance of gingival bleeding, gingival retraction, tooth mobility with the appearance of spaces between the teeth and bone resorption.
Periodontal evaluation is done by clinical examination, periodontometry and radiological examination. The clinical examination looks at the appearance, volume and consistency of the gum, the mobility of the teeth, the presence of risk factors, such as bacterial plaque and tartar, prosthetic work or improperly adapted fillings, dentomaxillary abnormalities.
The treatment of periodontal disease includes several stages depending on the severity of the disease. Contact us for more details.
