Dental prophylaxis is the branch of dentistry dedicated to the prevention of the occurrence of dental caries or periodontal diseases as well as the prevention of their evolution, through minimally invasive techniques. From the therapeutic arsenal of prophylaxis, we can mention the periodic controls and hygiene performed by the dentist, the detection and fluoridation of incipient carious lesions, as well as the sealing of recently erupted teeth.
The hygiene session takes place at the beginning of each dental treatment, but also once every 6 months. It includes:
1. Ultrasonic descaling involves the removal of tartar from the teeth using an ultrasonic device.
2. Professional brushing is carried out in the office with the help of a special brush and paste, with the aim of removing bacterial plaque from the dental surface as well as removing stains from the teeth, determined by food/tobacco.
3. The treatment with the Airflow prophylaxis device consists of washing the teeth with a sodium bicarbonate powder mixed with water, under pressure, to remove stains from the teeth, from hard-to-reach areas, fine deposits of tartar, resulting in brighter teeth white, brighter.
